Sotheby’s unveils metaverse NFT auction during Paris Blockchain Week

Sotheby’s plans to conduct an NFT auction called “Oddly Satisfying,” influenced by a well-known Reddit phenomenon. The auction will showcase creations from digital talents such as Beeple, Anyma, and Lucas Zanotto.

Metaverse milestone: Sotheby’s groundbreaking “Natively Digital” auctions

In collaboration with the RLTY metaverse platform, the event will be the inaugural NFT auction in the metaverse during Paris Blockchain Week.

The “Natively Digital: Oddly Satisfying” sale will occur between March 17 and March 24 in Paris, displaying 3D animations from notable NFT creators like Josh Pierce. Additionally, Sotheby’s has scheduled an auction in New York titled “Natively Digital: Glitch-ism” from March 24 to March 31, presenting digital art inspired by the internet’s early years, featuring works by artists such as XCopy, Luis Ponce, and jakethedegen.

Sotheby’s, RLTY, and the rise of digital auctions

Michael Bouhanna, Sotheby’s head of digital art and NFTs, is eager to exhibit the convergence of art and technology in these upcoming auctions. He underscored the significance of digital art in representing our changing connection with technology and its widespread impact on our daily lives.

Sotheby’s has previously organized prosperous NFT auctions, such as the previous “Natively Digital” sale in April 2021 during the height of the NFT craze, a $2.3 million generative art event in April 2022 and a collaborative International Women’s Day sale with Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova and her Unicorn DAO.

RLTY co-founder Raphael Assouline stressed the significance of global accessibility for web3 conferences through their alliance with Paris Blockchain Week. Participants can enjoy numerous features, including networking spaces, private meeting rooms, a web3 Talent Fair, and over 30 virtual sponsor exhibits.

Furthermore, recruiters, human resources specialists, and job hunters can utilize 20 unique virtual spaces for interviews and discussions, equipped with geospatial audio capabilities and an extensive selection of video and audio tools.
