Certificates on the Blockchain: Sharjah Digital Office introduces ‘Sharjah NFT’ platform

The Sharjah Digital Office has launched the ‘Sharjah NFT,’ an initiative to transform how certificates are issued and tracked. The innovation, using Non-Fungible Token (NFT) technology, was showcased at GITEX Global 2023.

NFT certificates

Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Director of Sharjah Digital Office, spearheaded the cutting-edge initiative allowing government and private entities in the United Emirates Arabs (UAE) to issue digitally verified certificates.

Using soulbound tokens (SBTs), a non-sellable NFT, the Sharjah Digital Office provides a seamless method of storing and retrieving documents via a QR code using the blockchain.

The ‘Sharjah NFT platform’ stands as an embodiment of Sharjah’s commitment to a digital and sustainable future. Launched at the Sharjah Government Pavilion during GITEX Global 2023 in an eye-catching presentation, this platform promises user-centricity at its core.

Tech for Societal Good

Entities spanning from government departments to private businesses can now issue authenticated certificates. These digital records store non-fungible codes, marking a pivotal shift from traditional paper certificates. Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi stated that his office is “unwavering in its mission to incorporate advanced technologies for societal good.”

He attributed the drive behind such innovations to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, emphasizing his vision of cultivating technological innovation in Sharjah, all while ensuring adaptability and efficiency across every sector. Sheikh Saud added:

“Transitioning to the Sharjah NFT Platform is a significant leap from paper to secure digital certificates. They’re not only easy to issue but also provide unmatched reliability.”

Ensuring security and authenticity

Citing the platform’s robustness, he noted its resilience against tampering or fraud attempts, ensuring the authenticity of each certificate. “This step,” he mentioned, “is in line with our goal to speed up Sharjah’s digital metamorphosis.”

The platform will offer users the tools to design tailored certificates, leveraging its blockchain base. This ensures efficient creation and distribution, reducing the need for manual intervention.

But the platform’s features don’t end there. Beyond its efficiency, it offers users an avenue to display their accomplishments on notable NFT markets and platforms. Such visibility could play a pivotal role in enhancing a certificate holder’s professional stature when shared with the world.
