Pplpleasr drops first official Bruce Lee NFT collection

Shibuya, an NFT-driven video platform, has joined forces with the Bruce Lee Estate to bring the late martial artist icon into the Web3 realm.

House of Lee: Genesis

The partnership’s initial offering is an open edition Ethereum NFT called “House of Lee: Genesis,” which showcases artwork of Lee hand-drawn by Emily “pplpleasr” Yang and designed in collaboration with Shannon Lee, the daughter of Bruce Lee and president of the Bruce Lee Estate.

The NFT is available for purchase at 0.008 ETH each (around $15) until the end of the mint on Friday. Although plans for the NFT’s future use or utility have yet to be disclosed, the “House of Lee: Genesis” NFT is being marketed as “your ticket to the House of Lee,” and serves as the opening stage of an ongoing Web3 collaboration with the Bruce Lee Estate.

The popularity of open edition NFTs has surged in recent months, in part due to their reasonable prices and the use of gamification techniques that encourage collectors to purchase and even burn multiple editions for rewards.

According to a statement released by Bruce Lee’s daughter, the NFT provides a distinct chance for enthusiasts to engage with her father’s philosophy in an engaging manner, thereby commemorating and celebrating his legacy.

Shibuya NFT videos

To date, Shibuya has primarily focused on creating original video series that offer NFT holders a degree of creative input. For instance, holders of NFTs for the anime-style White Rabbit series are empowered to select the next narrative direction at the end of each segment.

Similarly, Dominion X: Level 2, produced by musician Steve Aoki and actor Seth Green’s Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, lets NFT owners vote on the conclusion to each new stop-motion animated segment released on a weekly basis. In December, Shibuya announced that it had raised $6.9 million in seed funding, which was co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Variant Fund.

It remains unclear whether Shibuya intends to adopt a similar approach to creating Bruce Lee video content. However, the teaser clip for the NFT demonstrates that the company is presently working on an animation featuring the actor and martial artist. The clip is scheduled to be displayed on a Times Square video billboard this week in New York City, coinciding with the NFT.NYC conference.
