NFL Rivals has become the most successful Web3 gaming release of 2023, achieving 2 million active users in less than five months after the official launch.
This rise in numbers can be attributed to two factors: the start of the NFL season on September 7 and the game being featured on the App Store.

Developed by gaming studio Mythical Games in partnership with the National Football League, NFL Rivals is the first officially licensed mobile NFT game by the NFL.
John Linden, the CEO of Mythical Games, took to Twitter (X) on Sunday, highlighting the game’s milestone and its broader implications for Web3 gaming:
“Thank you to Apple for featuring NFL Rivals on the front page of the App Store!! Big day for Mythical. Big day for web3!”
Migration to Polkadot
Mythical Games recently transitioned from Ethereum to Polkadot. This move, driven by a desire for increased scalability, seems to be paying dividends. Mythical Games CEO, John Linden, explained the shift:
“The decision to leave the Ethereum ecosystem stems from… slow transaction speeds, even with L2 roll-ups, that would ultimately hinder our scaling plans with our new games this year.”
Backing these sentiments, Polkadot emphasized the game’s impact on the digital asset landscape in a tweet, stating that “Web3 gaming is going mainstream!”.
It’s worth noting that Mythical Games initially announced their decision to shift the Mythical Chain to Polkadot in April. This move is strategic. It facilitates more on-chain game developers to join the Mythical Ecosystem. The migration retains interoperability and connectivity while paving the way for what can be best described as a superchain.
Björn Wagner, CEO of Parity Technologies, a key player in the Polkadot network, expressed his delight earlier in the year:
“We are thrilled Mythical Games was drawn to the unique strengths of Polkadot… including their own governance and treasury,”
