ImmutableX launches new wallet and authentication solution

ImmutableX announces a new wallet and authentication solution that aims to remove web3 onboarding hurdles and offers game developers access to marketplaces, gamers, and an infrastructure that enables true scalability.
The next step for GameFi adoption
Immutable has launched a new onboarding solution focused on the GameFi industry called Immutable Passport. This non-custodial wallet and authentication tool is designed to make it easier for users to access blockchain games and marketplaces through passwordless sign-on.
The solution provides players with a secure digital wallet, protection against fraud, and seamless authentication across web3 games and marketplaces without the need for the platform to hold onto the user’s private keys.
According to Michael Powell, product marketing lead at Immutable, the current solutions’ requirements for consent for every interaction is a significant obstacle to onboarding mainstream gamers to web3. He highlighted that this impacts a game’s level of immersion, forcing games to move blockchain-enabled features outside of the core gameplay.
However, Immutable Passport aims to address these issues by allowing players to access funds and make transactions without leaving the game, all while protecting them through smart heuristics, 2FA approvals, and user-controlled spending limits.
The cross-platform solution
In the Immutable Passport, players will be able to create their own web3 identities, which they can use across multiple platforms. This will give gamers a vertically integrated gaming experience across Immutable’s suite of products, enabling them to “mint millions of NFTs for free, get their assets listed across the top NFT marketplaces,” and promote their games to the Immutable community. Additionally, players will be able to use one identity and travel with their assets across their gaming experience.
The Immutable Passport will be accessible across multiple platforms, starting with mobile and desktop, with console support planned for the future. Immutable Passport’s passwordless sign-on process is designed to make the onboarding experience easy and secure for players. They can sign on using just an email address and a one-time password, which is sent to their email.
This will reduce the risk of hacked accounts and forgotten passwords, making it easier for gaming projects to attract new and larger audiences and confirming the long-term business model of partnering with several web3 games.
The Immutable Passport
Customer research conducted by the ImmutableX team found that ease of onboarding, security, and plug & play features were the top priorities for development studios integrating web3 components into their games, especially considering the play-to-earn nature of most Blockchain games.
The Immutable Passport addresses these concerns by providing a simple sign-in process and offering enterprise-grade security to ensure that only the holder of the private key can access the assets.
Furthermore, the Immutable Passport will allow game studios and developers to gain valuable insights into customer behavior and players’ needs and wants. Studios that integrate with the Passport will have access to a large group of active players in the ImmutableX ecosystem, as well as a robust web3 ecosystem of tools, APIs, and infrastructure solutions that enable global scalability.
In conclusion, the launch of Immutable Passport is a significant step forward in making web3 gaming more accessible and secure for mainstream audiences. The passwordless sign-on process, non-custodial wallet solution, and the ability to create and secure online identities are expected to be game changers for players and will reduce user acquisition costs for gaming projects.
According to Robbie Ferguson, Immutable’s President and Co-Founder:
“For web3 gaming to reach a billion players, onboarding must be invisible, secure, and work across any game – mobile, console, or desktop. Until now, security and friction have been trade-offs. Passport is a self-custodial wallet, where users can sign in with just an email and one-time password – it will be a game changer for players and radically reduce user acquisition costs.”
