Funko and Marvel celebrate Iron Man’s 60th anniversary with new NFT collection

Influential pop culture lifestyle brand Funko, alongside digital collectibles platform VeVe, has unveiled a brand-new collaboration with Marvel. Scheduled to launch on October 18, this collection celebrates 60 years of the iconic character Iron Man.

The partnership was officially announced by Marvel Comics and Funko, introducing a unique digital-physical figure of Iron Man via VeVe.

Launching as the first in Funko’s Gold premium vinyl collectible line, the Iron Man figure is bound to catch the eye of collectors with a limited release of 3,000 pieces, each tagged at $150. An equivalent digital collectible figure will accompany every purchase on the VeVe platform.

The Iron Man figure stands tall at 18”, reflecting a comic-inspired Funko Gold physical figure. A matching digital collectible, accessible on VeVe, accompanies each purchase, blending a tangible collectible with a digital asset.

Steve Nave, the CFO and COO of Funko, articulated the essence of this initiative:

“Our approach to collectibles is centered on creating new ways for fans to show off their most treasured IPs. Being a part of Marvel’s celebration of Iron Man through this collaboration with VeVe signifies Funko’s dedication to collectability and to bringing fandoms to fans in varied forms.”

VeVe’s partnership with Marvel

VeVe, having ventured into the NFT space with Marvel in 2021, has aimed to pioneer the first-ever carbon-neutral NFT platform. While the pledge towards 100% carbon-neutral NFTs and grants for environmental causes is real, the timeline given by VeVe to achieve this goal remains ambiguous.

The VeVe platform, accessible via the App Store, Google Play, and the VeVe web app, presents a myriad of Marvel digital collectibles. It facilitates trading and hunting for rare comic pieces while showcasing collectors’ prized possessions in fully customizable virtual showrooms, offering an augmented reality (AR) photo mode for an interactive experience.

VeVe’s co-founder and CEO, David Yu, shed light on this unique venture, stating:

“Our collaboration with both Funko and Marvel allows VeVe to transcend digital barriers by offering a physical counterpart to our highly coveted digital collectibles. Funko’s pedigree in the collectibles space is a testament to engaging fans uniquely, and we eagerly anticipate bringing Iron Man to life in a novel way.”

This collection also introduces a colorful array of variants, mirroring the vibrant 60-year journey of the character, including the emblematic red and gold color scheme. Each purchase, encased in individually stickered blind boxes, will also hold a code redeemable for a free digital collectible NFT on VeVe, ensuring collectors a two-fold experience.

The commitment to evolving collectible experiences by Funko, Marvel, and VeVe holds promise for an exciting, innovative future in the realm of digital and physical collectibles.
