DeeKay Kwon and Cozomo de’ Medici unveil a 24-Hour open-edition NFT surprise

South Korean animator DeeKay Kwon and the mysterious digital art patron, Cozomo de’ Medici, have launched an open-edition artwork on Base, forging a partnership with Coinbase L2 and Friends With Benefits (FWB). A striking testament to its appeal, this initiative garnered an impressive $100,000 within the very first hour of its unveiling.

A new chapter in NFT accessibility

The unique 24-hour availability, which began on Aug 10 and concluded on August 11 at 9:00 a.m. PT, provides a level of inclusivity seldom seen in the NFT space. Potential collectors without ETH or Base ETH are now afforded the chance to participate using standard credit card methods.

Moreover, for those already invested in the Ethereum ecosystem, there’s an option to bridge their ETH to Base directly through the mint site.

In a heartfelt tweet, Kwon explained the rationale behind this endeavor: “Our aim isn’t to create new hype within our bubble; instead, it’s about onboarding new frens into the world of digital art collecting”. His vision extends to leveraging Coinbase’s Base, enabling seamless minting through credit cards, thus ensuring a more accessible price point.

Drawing from his rich cultural heritage, Kwon’s artwork seamlessly intertwines elements from both Korean and American influences. Cozomo de’ Medici, echoing a name synonymous with the golden age of the Italian Renaissance, shared a similar sentiment, offering insights into his journey through his weekly “Medici Minutes.”

Cozomo de’ Medici, emerged onto the crypto scene in August 2021 as the self-proclaimed “grand patron of the digital arts”, and quickly amassed an NFT collection valued at over $17 million, all while remaining anonymous. However, a revelation came when the rap mogul Snoop Dogg tweeted, “I am @CozomoMedici”. Yet, even with such a claim, the true identity of Cozomo remains shrouded in mystery.

Community reactions

The overwhelming enthusiasm surrounding this initiative is palpable. The community’s reaction varied from praise for the innovative use of Base’s credit card functionality for minting and transactions to admiration for the entire project’s execution.

Upcoming appearances

In addition to this digital marvel, fans, and collectors can look forward to Kwon’s physical presence at The Gateway Korea. Here, attendees will be treated to an intimate viewing of his recently sold masterpiece, “Am I Dreaming”, a self-portrait that offers a window into the artist’s creative process.
