Animoca Brands elevates Web3 sports engagement by joining Chiliz

Animoca Brands has joined the Chiliz blockchain network as a validator, marking a significant advancement in the governance of the Chiliz Chain. This development diversifies Animoca Brands’ presence in the NFT sports sector.

Animoca Brands x Chiliz

Animoca Brands, already a leader in blockchain technology within gaming, is now poised to expand its reach in the sports domain, as explained in a recent blogpost.

Yat Siu, the co-founder of Animoca Brands, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. He sees it as a merging of their NFT and gaming expertise with Chiliz’s sports and entertainment ecosystem, creating new opportunities in these fields.

Chiliz: A digital delight for sports fan

Chiliz is the company behind, one of the leading sports NFT marketplaces. The project has since expanded, with the Mainnet of Chiliz Chain going live in May of this year.

Chiliz focuses primarily on engaging sports fans through blockchain technology. The new blockchain has been instrumental in creating over 80 Fan Tokens linked to major sports clubs, revolutionizing fan engagement in the sports industry.

Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Chiliz, commented on the significance of the new collaboration. He believes this marks an acceleration in their journey to establish the definitive blockchain for sports and Web3 convergence.

Betting on the Mocaverse

Further cementing its commitment to the metaverse sector, Animoca Brands recently secured a substantial $20 million investment for its ‘Mocaverse’ project.

The investment in the ‘Mocaverse’ project comes at a time of varied industry perspectives on the metaverse concept. While many companies are investing heavily, the majority remain skeptical about the potential of the metaverse.

Meta has rebranded and spent billions on the metaverse, but to no avail. Last year, it was reported that the company had to force its own employees to use it. Interest in blockchain-based metaverses may be slightly better, but even platforms like Decentraland have a small user base, especially when compared to the project’s size.

Giants like Walt Disney have also closed down their metaverse department. However, it has now been reported that the media and entertainment conglomerate is moving into the NFT space with a new platform, Disney Pinnacle.

Expanding the NFT sports sector

The collaboration between Chiliz and Animoca Brands is indicative of a broader trend where blockchain technology intersects with the sports sector. This partnership opens new possibilities for fan engagement and innovation within the sports industry, blending SportFi, GameFi, and DeFi.
